Hey StyleLeeders! I hope you’re all well and excited for the weekend. I know I certainly am. Last week Friday, I attended the Ocean Style all-white invitational, Eyes Wide Shut and it was a fabulous event from start to finish. It was held on the lawns of the Rose Hall “haunted” Great House which made for an exciting location especially because attendees could actually experience the White Witch of Rose Hall “Annie Palmer” tour if they wished. Creepy I know, but pretty awesome at the same time.
I genuinely feel like it was a pretty good mix of people, good music and the perfect opportunity to mix with Montego Bays finest. There were also a handful of noteworthy names gathered at the event, as such we were among stars like Nicole Murphy, Mystical, Taye Diggs, Angela Simmons, Flex Alexander, Selita Ebanks and Don Benjamin. Mid-way through an all-white night a fashion show took place showcasing pieces from Jamaican-based designers like Dexter ‘3D’ Pottinger, Neahlis and Franz Christie.
Now, I don’t know one person who doesn’t enjoy an all white party. I for one absolutely love all-white events. Everything just looks fresh, clean, crisp and radiant. In past years people have always gone above and beyond with their outfits for this particular event; wearing delicate, lightweight and flowy fabrics like lace, silk, chiffon and tulle and going very chic and elegant in tutus, gowns, flared skirts and lovely body hugging dresses.
The Eyes Wide Shut all-white party has always been one where everyone comes out and shows out and I knew this year would be no different. After talking with a few of my friends who had all planned to wear quite grande and very fussy all white ensembles ranging from white leather body-con dresses, feather skirts and even an all lace jumpsuit, I quickly realized that once again everyone planned on going the whole 9 yards with their outfits.
My outfit? Well I wanted to be different this year so I went with overalls. I know, I know, overalls do seem a bit casual and funnily enough when I told my girlfriends they thought the same thing. But hey I wanted to be chic and comfy. So while they were fussing about their ‘poofy and frilly’ skirts I was quite cool in my chic ‘mechanic’ inspired outfit. I stayed with simple silhouettes to stick with my fresh and easy-breezy look and paired my white overalls with a ribbed white top, a dainty pair of pointed toe heels and a sequin white clutch. All white outfits allows for a bold and bright makeup look so I went with a punchy bold red lip for that extra oomph to make my outfit a bit more chic and classic. I mean who doesn’t love a classic red lip?
