It’s nearly 9:30p.m. on a Thursday night and more than a hundred people are crammed into the lower-level dance floor at Montego Bay’s hot spot Pier One. As I make my way through the entrance a popular socialite fist pumps as a young woman backs up into him, swaying her hips from side to side. A few steps away, a group of university gals are breaking out into a spontaneous dance routine while nearby a young couple attempts to move their bodies in sync with each other. This of course is all part of any night out at Pier One, except on this particular night there was no music playing— at least out loud.
Quiet Parties, Silent Discos, Headphone Events (which ever name you want to call it) all have been around for quite some time but this was my first time attending one and now I completely understand why these quiet events are making so much noise. It’s an out of this world social experience where people dance to music playing from wireless headphones, while being able to toggle between three different DJ stations throughout the night. So basically you can listen to all genres of music at the same party, just by simply flipping a switch on the headphones to check out what DJ2 or DJ3 is playing.
I must admit when I first heard about this so called quiet style partying coming to Jamaica, I thought it was going to be pretty stupid but after some getting use to, it was actually quite thrilling and I’m excited to attend another one. If you happen to be in Jamaica and get the chance to attend a silent party I suggest you check it out. You won’t regret it. Now onto my outfit…
I haven’t been clubbing in a while so when I received my invite for this “Quiet Party” I immediately knew I wanted to wear something very urban and sporty. It takes nothing more than a pair of high-waisted shorts, an over sized denim or colorful shirt, tank or jacket and the right accessories for a well put together urban style outfit. So for the silent event I wore my distressed, raggedy high-waisted denim shorts, paired with a graphic printed fitness-bra top, caged booties and a mix a gold and rose gold accessories to give my look added character. Then to complete my look I went with a deep plum lip color to give my outfit the ‘wow’ factor it needed.
