HAPPY MONDAY LOVES ♥ Life’s always better on an exotic beach, right? The ‘Alikay Naturals X Natasha Lee-Duhaney’ photoshoot landed us on the beach of a hidden jewel of Ocho Rios—Bamboo Blue. A beachfront restaurant sitting alongside the Caribbean Sea amid swaying palm trees and cool ocean breeze. The beach was not an easy find, but that’s what added to the charm. We all fell in love with this location at first sight and although I knew I would be ‘working,’ I was eager to wrap up as quickly as possible. Just to go lay out in one of the cabana beds and bask in the beauty of my little island.
We found a little spot on the beach and used an abondoned shop made out of bamboo to create our own little fruit stall filled with Alikay products. What was my part you ask? Well I took on the role of the very stylish fruit lady. One with a big heart and even bigger hair and all she wanted to do was eat the coconuts she had in her stall instead of selling them haha. Okay, that was my imagination getting the best of me as usual but that’s how I sort of felt inside. With the weather in full summer mode all year round in Jamaica, denim shorts and off-the-shoulder tops are pretty much one of my uniforms for everyday wear. That said, I knew one of the looks I had to style had to encompass that island gal vibe. So heres a little look into another outfit styled for the Alikay Naturals X Natasha Lee-Duhaney shoot.
My little style secret to refreshing my uniform? By letting my accessories ‘werkk!’ I upgraded a simple off-the-shoulder top and denim shorts outfit by piling on gold bangles that delivered the perfect pop of style to match my pretty-in-pink pout. Adding accessories like oversized, gold, hoop earrings and matching gold bangles really helped to elevate a very basic look. Plus, the flashes of gold jewelry made me appear sun-kissed. Bring on the bling and bring on that glowing skin! #WERK
We were literally on the last few shots when I saw our server walking towards us with a huge tray filled with food. My eyes lit up and I suddenly could not control my smile. If you notice a huge smile in some of these photos, don’t mistake them as a posing pic. This was me genuinely smiling for joy with our server as she approached us with our meals, hahaha!
After devouring what I thought was the best jerk-fish burger I was finally able to lay out on one of the cool sun lounges I’d been eyeing since we arrived. Sadly by the time I closed my eyes it was time to move to a new location. Altogether I think we all shared a fabulous time at Bamboo Blu but if time allowed I could have spent the entire day under that cabana. Maybe next time…
From Big FRO to FROHAWK
1: We wanted to achieve a pretty big and wild frohawk so my curls and coils were picked out completely into a huge FRO.
2: To protect the sides of my hair the lemon-grass leave-in was first applied to just the sides.
3: Next the Aloe Berry Styling Gel was added to one side to create a sleek look. My hair was then pulled and brushed upwards and secured with bobby pins in order to create the illusion of a tapered side. This was done from back to front, until one side was completely lifted and pinned.
4: The same technique was then repeated on the other side of my head (roughly 10 bobby pins were used on each side).
5: Holding the hair taut near the ends a hair pick was used to fluff out my hair some more until the desired look was achieved.
& Wala…the Fro-Hawk!
