Hi Hi! This year for Mothers Day, my family and I left Montego Bay and traveled along the coastline to the islands western tip to dine at the Award Winning Rockhouse hotel. I personally believe the Rockhouse restaurant is a destination unto itself. You go for the food & superb service, stay for the breathtaking sunsets, get trapped by feelings of euphoria…& then you just don’t ever want to leave! It is the absolute perfect place to dine with loved ones because the restaurant sits between picturesque cliffs and an oasis of lush tropical vegetation.
Price: Average-High $$$ (okay, okay, it’s a little pricey but it is well worth it)
What you get: Spectacular views of glistening, blue waters as far as the eye can see, an amazing fine-dining experience with meals inspired by Caribbean cuisine, island inspired cocktails like their famous “Jah”ito (Mohito) and a serene atmosphere at any time of the day.
Ambiance: The restaurant is typically busy with a mix of locals and guests. The restaurant sits on the cliffs of Pristine Cove and features an airy thatched-roof bar and a balcony suspended over the Caribbean Sea. So you have panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea along with access to the best sunrises and sunsets you may ever see in your entire lifetime, while dining on an island-inspired menu that highlights the best of Caribbean cuisine. Capturing the sunset while dining was very important for mom so we specifically made reservations for 5:30p.m. to have front row seats to one of the most spectacular sunsets on the planet.
Food: Rockhouse Restaurant features an updated take on Caribbean cuisine incorporating fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients that are sourced from the hotels organic garden, located right on the property. We dined and gushed over meals like ackee dip & plantain chips, grilled calamari, surf & ‘surf’ (no ‘turf’, just double the seafood), pineapple tarts and ice-cream. Rock house restaurant is an absolute fabulous experience for any foodie because the ‘nyammings‘ from the restaurant will literally have you dreaming of the hotel weeks after you return home.
While we waited on our maincourse my sister and I happily frolicked around the hotel grounds snapping pics wherever possible and chitter-chattering about how we must visit again with our spouses. Not just to dine but to spend a few days so we can truly bask in all that the hotel has to offer. Hopefully we can cross that off our bucket list by the end of 2016, fingers crossed.
Service: I’ve always said a waiter can make or break any dining experience. Well…we couldn’t be any more impressed with our waiter Flavell (who told us to call him Flavor). “Flavor” not only knew the menu but he also made suggestions of what he thought were the BEST picks. He had so much character, so much charm and boy o’ boy he sure was funny. Kudos to Rockhouse for investing in well-trained staff.
The fit and flare dress
Would you believe this dress is 6 years old!!! Yes SIX! My husband gifted this fit and flare dress to me 6 years ago when he noticed someone in Abercrombie & Fitch placing this blue number on the manikin of the store window. He loved how the dress looked on the manikin so much that he decided to purchase the dress for me. I’ve since worn this dress once and it was to dinner on my 21st birthday and it has been collecting dust in my closet ever since haha.
Well within the past month, I’ve been doing a bit of ‘Spring Cleaning’ and while sorting out clothes to give to young teens in need I started paying attention to a few pieces that I had not seen in years. One thing led to another and I ended up putting together a few outfits I plan to re-wear one last time. Then there was this dress. I slipped it on and I immediately felt happy! Could it be the relaxing blue tones in the dress? Or was it the thought that it was gifted to me by my hubby? Maybe it was the fit and flare silhouette? Or perhaps a little mix of all three, whatever it was I just felt so good in the dress and decided it was the perfect piece to wear by the seaside for Mothers Day dinner the following week.
Since wearing this dress I’ve rekindled my love for everything fit and flare and I now want one in every color, every print and every fabric under the sun. The dress just made me feel so feminine, while flattering my body and left me feeling far more confident than anything that clings to my hips and legs.
The fit and flare dress really is an understated design. This curvy outfit design in particular was in a knockout colour shade perfect for spring and featured carefully placed stripes that blended seamlessly with the nautical surroundings at the Rockhouse Hotel Restaurant. I added a skinny waist-belt from Ralph Lauren to stick with my nautical inspired look and topped it off with a pair of comfy espadrilles that I picked up from Payless last year.
What did you do for your Mom on Mothers Day? Please do tell. Oh and it’s Fridayyyyy!!!! Anything interesting planned for the weekend? Whatever it is, have fun and be safe. Talk Soon. Nuff Love, Natasha ♥
