REVIEW ¦ Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly

Frizz Free CurlsHey Honey Bunches, (of oats lol)…I hope you’re all well! If you happen to be following me on Instagram (@natashaleeds) then you would know that I was testing out a new product from Frizz Free Curls. It’s their Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly. This is my first time using this product and after much trial and error I must say it is a lovely product.

Whenever I’m trying a new product I always either use every last drop of the product or at least use it multiple times before forming any sort of opinion about it. With this particular product I’m so happy I gave it a couple tries rather than writing it off as a product I hate after the first time I applied it to my hair! I say this because the first few times I used this product it was a mess (okay not a mess but I like to be dramatic)!

IMG_4819Blueberry Control Jelly Trial #1. The instructions says to use on wet hair after shampooing and conditioning, and it says nothing much about moisturizing but all about hold. It did however say to moisturize with another product from their line a day later. Now when I saw that I just thought that it sounded like a recipe for disaster (for my thick, textured hair at least). Obviously I disregarded what the directions said and after cleansing and conditioning I went ahead and applied my usual moisturizer, and then I applied the blueberry control jelly. This is where the mess started! The combination of my creamy Shea butter based moisturizer did not mix well with this blueberry based product! My issue wasn’t so much about how my hair felt but instead how my hair SMELT!!! Everyone raves about how amazing your hair will smell when using a product from Frizz Free Curls, but listen the concoction in my hair had me smelling like rotting fruit!!! I went to a furniture store that day and the lady who was trying to assist me said “unuh nuh smell dat…sumn roun here smell like when fruit a spoil” OH THE HORROR! (she basically said something in the area smelled like a spoiled fruit). Best believe I went straight home that day and washed everything out…but guess what? I decided that I would be trying it out again!

Blueberry Control Jelly Trial #2. Okay so this time around I did exactly what the instructions said (apply after shampooing and conditioning). So I spread a glob of the jelly all over my hair and it had a ton load of SLIP!!!! We all know how every natural gal out there loves slippage! Now, this entire time I was watching my breathing because I really did fear being hit with the scent of rotten fruit (dramatic I know), but to my surprise all I could smell were freshly picked blueberries—yummy!  Now here is where my problem arose, the product is very lightweight. This is great for curly gals who don’t like heavy gels and creams or those who have thin, fine curls…but for my thick and coily tresses, lightweight doesn’t cut it. Basically the product only provided a very light hold for an hour or two…after that my hair was a big poof and my usual bouncy, springy, spiral coils looked lifeless (almost like I was rocking a five day old wash and go).  Hey! but at least my hair smelled good throughout the day this time around and although my hair looked lifeless it did however feel very soft! [BTW, applying a moisturizer the day after as the directions suggested didn’t work either. So it was back to the drawing boards for me].

Blueberry Control Jelly Trial #3. Okay, so once again I’m back to square 1, but determined to reap the benefits of this product filled with every health and fitness guru’s favorite super food ‘BLUEBERRIES.’ I decided that this product is definitely a styler and can only be used to style and set my hair, but my problem was finding what product to use before it! I had already combined it with a thick and creamy product and that didn’t work, so my next solution was to try it with lighter product. So once again I was washing my hair…after conditioning I applied Giovanni Direct Leave-In conditioner first, then I raked and scrunched the blueberry jelly which applied very smoothly to my hair, then finally I added coconut oil. GUESS WHAT!!!! It worked fabulously!!! My hair was moisturized, it felt soft, it smelled yummy, and my hair bounced around with incredible sheen and definition!Blueberry curl control jelly (StylishLEE-IG: natashaleeds)

All in all, I really think the Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly is a pretty damn good product. I personally think it’s better suited for naturals with fine, thin hair because it is so lightweight. Nonetheless, it provided curl definition with a slight hold, its also jam-packed with blueberry extract which we all know, if it’s good enough to be called a super food then you know it must also be full of great benefits for the hair. It contains no harsh ingredients and it is a great alternative to using gel as a styler.

I know there are a few of you who hate the lengthy product reviews but with this one I just had to go all in and share my entire experience for your benefit and for mine. If you have tried this product let me know your thoughts below. Talk soon, Nuff Love, Natasha ♥

CURLS was kind enough to send me the Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly for me to review. My review is transparent and are 100% mine. 🙂

Hi Natasha thanks for the product review, I was thinking of trying the Blueberry Jelly but opted for their Goddess curl gel. I haven’t used it as yet and now you have me here debating on if I should try the Blueberry as well (product junkies anonymous lol) Nuff respect as always Afrochickcc

You should try flaux seed gel, I find it amazing. Plus you can make it yourself.

Hey Tondra, I really hope you enjoy the product and it works out for you. If my way doesn’t work always try alternative ways. 😉

So I did a dime-sized of each product and rub them together in my hands…it turned white so I was like OH NO! But I didn’t get a white residue with the As I Am Leave-in or the Carol’s daughter Hair Milk original Leave-in so I’m going to go with one of those. Thank you!

Thats great! I still am yet to try anything from the Carols daughter line (mostly because it’s not sold here in Jamaica), but Im just happy it’s working for you…
