If you are a fan of the novel or were of the select few who actually enjoyed the movie maybe you’ve dreamed of going up the not so innocent private elevator to pay a visit to Mr. Grey in his penthouse apartment overlooking views of Seattle (or may be not lol). Obviously I can’t make that happen but I can pretend to dress the part, right?
So for my second Grey Shade outfit I tried to maintain that Anastasia Steele look, with a simple, business-like outfit consisting of a skirt and a trench coat. Okay, so maybe not as plain and simple like Ana, but close enough, haha. I went with outerwear’s most classic silhouette—the trench coat, & the one I’m wearing is from Modcloth (sold out), and boasts utilitarian features, like roll cuffs and well placed pockets. With it’s sporty hip length an midi sleeves, the lightweight fabric isn’t too heavy to wear on our warm nights here in Jamaica.
Maybe it’s the popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey that has sparked my interest in leather all over again, but clearly my look is very much dominated by it. The risqué faux leather mini skirt from Forever 21 to the faux leather clutch from Asos and finally my leather sky high ‘tie me up, tie me down’ stilettos from Topshop—all brought some power and edge to the entire outfit.
Between the rope, cuffs, tape, or cable ties that we’ve all since associated with Mr. Grey and his 50 different shades, I had to also add in a few naughty pieces of jewelry. My chunky, chain link necklace from Michael Kors and my thrifted metal arm cuffs were very reminiscent of all the ‘bondage’ scenes. Come to think of it, my grey blouse may just have been the only piece in the entire outfit that sweetened up the look, but because grey is a pretty muted color, it also added an element of mystery.
Hope you enjoyed Day 2 of Fashion inspired by the Fifty different Shades of Grey. See you tomorrow loves. XO Natasha ♥
