Paradise Found: Sandals South Coast Overwater Bungalows

Hey TravelLeeders!

Theres something very special about seeing clear blue skies overhead and sparkling, blue waters beneath your feet. As Emanuel and I relaxed on the deck of our overwater bungalow, we could hear the lapping waves beneath us. Looking out we see different shades of blue and feel the tropical sea breeze as it caresses our faces. Slowly I’m lulled into a trance as I’m trying to take in the 180 degree panorama around me. Then…I let out a sigh of disbelief.

This is Sandals South Coast, Jamaica. And it is even more magical than I’d imagined.

Have you dreamed of inserting yourself into one of those classic magazine cover shots of a swoon-worthy hotel or destination? Well I’ve dreamed about staying in an overwater villa ever since the age of 12! I remember like it was yesterday… My mother just picked me up from school and as we walked inside I saw in her hand, three new magazines that she just picked up from Fontana Pharmacy. One of the magazine covers particularly stood out to me. On it, were several thatched roof huts, strung together like pearls on a necklace that were sitting directly over the bluest water I had ever seen.

Long story short, I kept that magazine right throughout High School and College. I was so enamored with bungalows in the South Pacific, I told myself that one day me and my future husband would make it to Bora Bora to stay in one of those Bungalows. That day is still yet to come…but something even better happened.

For as long as I can remember, tourists & honeymooners have flown all the way to the South Pacific to stay in bungalows that sit over crystal clear, blue water. Now, thanks to Sandals Resorts that luxury is also in the Caribbean and the need to take a trip halfway around the world to the Maldives, is no longer necessary because Jamaica is an easy flight from almost anywhere in North America. #WINNING!

If you’ve been following me on Snapchat and Instagram then you already know that I recently had the opportunity to spend 3 blissful days at the Sandals South Coast in Jamaica and all I can say is ‘WOW!’ From the moment we were picked up at the Montego Bay airport in a luxury automobile I knew we were in for a treat. Our chauffeur Lennox, drove us along a scenic route for an hour and a half to the Sandals Resort on the South Coast of Jamaica. Then, a golf cart took us to the bungalows where our very own personal butler was waiting at the entrance to check us in. Our butler, named Alreian, handed us cold towels and a cocktail and then opened the doors to our ‘new home’ for the next few days. What an amazing way to start a vacation, right?!

Before being ushered to our villa, I wanted to run around like a kid on Christmas morning. From the enormous bathroom to the perfect sundeck, the villa was even better than I could have hoped for! One of the first things I noticed when entering the room was the glass floor in the middle of the bedroom. The view of the marine life below was incredible. The next thing I did was open the sliding doors to our oversized deck outfitted with adequate seating for two and a deep soaker tub and shower— why take a shower inside, when you can do it under an open sky?

From the deck and pretty much from all angles in the bedroom, all we could see were layers of blue that made us feel like we were floating on the ocean. I was in heaven. This was everything I dreamed of from an overwater villa. I could go on and on about my love for our magical villa. But no matter how many carefully thought-out words I use, I know that ultimately they will not do them justice. So hopefully, some of my photos will.

We spent a good amount of time in our bungalow that stood dreamily over the Caribbean Sea. I couldn’t tell you how often we’d sit (or stand) on our deck looking into the waters that surrounded us. From laying around in our overwater hammock, staring from our bedroom through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the aqua colored sea, climbing down the ladder into the clear blue water to go snorkeling, taking a few well deserved naps on the outdoor loungers and freshening up by using our outdoor shower and bath. It was all quiet, and certainly relaxing. It was exactly what I hoped to do while back home in Jamaica.

Beyond the overwater villa, our days were spent lazy on the beach in our very own private cabana or sipping one too many drinks at a bar surrounded by hammocks, jetted out into the sea. We also loved being pampered at the Red Lane Spa and also releasing our inner child by trying out all the water-sports available to us. And I mean ALL the watersports! We did everything from snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, wind surfing and our favorite, tubing! It was an absolute blast.

Our evenings were just as magical as we dined under the stars with the sand between our feet. We also had several restaurants to choose from with flavors for every taste. On one night we went to Guisseippes for Italian and when we were craving some southeast Asian fare we dined at Jasmines. The variety of food we had every day spiced up our tastebuds and made our time at Sandals South Coast even more fun.

It wasn’t because the bungalows were strung together in the shape of a heart or because of the netted hammock that was suspended over the sea. Nor was it the endless amount of chilled champagne and it definitely was not the see-through glass floor in my room that allowed me and Manny to peer down into the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. Okay, who am I kidding? That absolutely added to the WOW factor of staying in an overwater bungalow at Sandals.

But being able to relax in a space of peace with my husband with the Caribbean Sea as my backyard while not seeing another soul in sight was also very satisfying. At no time throughout our stay did we feel crowded. I did a few checks and found out the hotel was 87% full and even then the beaches and pools were almost empty all the time. We felt like we had the entire place to ourselves every time we left our bungalow and that made our stay feel even more exclusive.

All in all, Sandals South Coast turned out to be even dreamier than I’d imagined and staying in an overwater bungalow was definitely the cherry on top of our entire stay. Ever since stepping foot into our very own bungalow it’s been hard to wipe the big smiles off of our faces. If you’re dreaming of a blissful resort filled with romance and want your very own retreat from the rest of the world I highly recommend staying in one of these overwater bungalows perched above the Caribbean Sea. Manny and I loved every moment while staying at Sandals so we’ve been researching other resorts in both Jamaica and the wider Cairbbean. For years I’ve heard nothing but amazing reviews of the Sandals chain of hotels and now I know exactly why and I have every intention of one day visiting as many of these resorts as I can.

Have you ever stayed in an overwater bungalow, whether it be in the Maldives or right here in the Caribbean at Sandals? And have you ever stayed at any of the Sandals Resorts? What has your experience been like at the other resorts? Please leave your comment below, I’d love to know! Talk Soon. Nuff Love, Natasha ♥
