Naturalistas EVERYWHERE!!! What can I say?! Where do I start?! Well…I had the pleasure of attending the Natural Hair Brunch Affair last weekend at the Sunset Beach Resort right here in my hometown (Montego Bay). Now listen, I’ve read reviews, seen pictures and watched snippets online of the Natural Hair Brunch Affair held across several States in the US and they all appeared out of this world. After attending this brunch last weekend I’m happy to say that this brunch completely lived up to the hype. I was in a naturalista sanctuary, where beautiful melanin queens sat at round tables of mixed company, enjoying a delicious brunch and great conversation. The Natural Hair Brunch Affair JA was everything I imagined and more. I had a stellar experience and I can’t wait to attend another.
When I first arrived I was greeted at the door by the warm, smiling face of Food Before Love founder Cassandra Rossario. She was so welcoming, which I loved! I attended the brunch alone and going anywhere on my own is extremely rare for me, so I must admit I was a little nervous at first. Cassanra told me I should take a seat anywhere upfront. There I found myself sitting at a table filled with beautiful women—none of which I knew. The crazy thing about it all, my nerves subsided quickly because the intimate setting I found myself in was so comfortable. Somehow I felt right at home sitting with women I knew nothing about except that we were all united by one common factor—our fros, kinks, knots, twists, locks, curls and coils! I made some great connections, enjoyed some tasty food, and had a truly great and positive experience.
Okay so yes the brunch itself was a nice addition and yes the food tasted great but lets face it we all really came out for a Natural Hair Meetup. As such the highlight of the event was the question and answer session where the Kaye Sisters (Shalleen-Kaye & Seanna-Kaye) offered us words of empowerment and encouragement. I was in awe of their knowledge about natural hair and even more impressed with their love to share this knowledge that will last a lifetime with everyone. Shalleen-Kaye of #NHDC even gave us an exclusive tutorial of how she achieves one of her effortless signature hair style using the Lottabody line.
We were able discuss hair care tips, exchange thoughts about products, moisture balance, length retention, thinning hair, reveal our “must-do” habits for healthy hair and also on how to get the perfect twist out. We were connecting openly and comfortably about our natural hair journey and our pitfalls and I seriously felt like I was part of some sort of natural hair sisterhood in a room full of friends just talking.
To top off this stellar experience we were all and I mean ALL gifted with a full line of AHH-mazing products from Lottabody Coconut and Shea Oil products, a comb set, and a satin scarf. Talk about the perfect way to any Naturalista’s heart! But wait there’s more! We even got all natural body products from Tropical Isle Living. OH! OH! OH! Wait there’s more…we also got tons and tons of freebies from the endless giveaways and raffles with gifts ranging from more hair products to more body products to Afrocentric inspired clothing and even custom made jewelry by New York Designer, Boy Beads.
The brunch ended with a huge group photo and mingling and well more photos (more like selfies). I thoroughly did enjoy myself and I am so happy I was able to attend this AHH-mazing event. I think its fair to say that the Natural Hair Brunch Affair is a superb event from start to finish and the Kaye sisters did not disappoint. I highly recommend that you check them out when they’re in a city near you. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch-up with the Kaye Sisters again but next time at one of their brunch tours in the US (wink, wink).
