Hello to all of my beauties & a bigger hello to my lippie addicts because I made this post just for you!
Lime Crime makeup definitely has had their fair share of controversy and I think this was one of the reasons it took me so many years to decide to purchase one. Well, I finally caved and picked up a total of 5 of their very popular long lasting velveteen lip stains & I must say I’m happy I did.
The velvetines are liquid lipsticks that basically apply like a gloss but dries to a matte finish. Pretty cool right? The only downside to any lippie that goes on wet and dries matte are the possibility of streaking and chapped lips. I’ve read a few reviews where people claimed that the velveteens go on very streaky but luckily for me I have had no such issues with any of the 5 from my collection. As for the chapped lips, I always recommend that you exfoliate and moisturize your lips before applying any liquid lipstick or lip stain. This helps to prevent your lips from drying out and decreases cracks or dry patches during wear.
Packaging: I typically lean more towards sleek packaging but somehow I love the whimsical and very creative feel that Lime Crime put into the packaging of these liquid lippies. The frosted glass and bright red cap adorned in pink roses add a little color to my makeup vanity. Plus whenever I pull any of these lippies out while out it always grabs someones attention.
Smell: I really like the smell of these velveteens. As soon as you open the cap you immediately get a faint whiff of a very delicious vanilla like scent—mhmm yummy. The smell fades once you begin to apply to the lips, but wouldn’t it be great if the smell lingered just for a bit, I would be thinking about pastries all day.
Application: The doe foot applicator actually works and is very easy to maneuver. This allows the velvetine liquid lipstick to go on smooth and opaque in just one coat. It applies like a gloss but within 30 seconds (sometimes less) it begins to dry down to a matte-velvety finish. The velvetines are neither drying nor hydrating but it will accentuate any lines on your lips.
Wear Time: I put this lippie to the test the first time I wore it out. I ate and drank as much as I could throughout the course of the day to see just how well it actually could stay on my lips. The velvetine did transfer just a teeny bit on the cup I drank from but it held up pretty well after eating three meals that day. On the inner most part of my lips the velveteen had faded but this wasn’t noticeable until my final meal for the day. All in all, this lippie basically stays on forever lol. I mean it survives light snacking and drinking, and really only breaks down when eating oily foods. These liquid lipsticks are more than good enough for me!
I’ve always picked up these lippies from the Urban Outfitters website (HERE), but you can always shop from the actual Lime Crime Makeup Website as well. Talk Soon. Nuff Love, Natasha ♥
