Hey StyleLeeders! Happy Monday!
It’s hard to believe that September is already here! Our summer days are finally dwindling away and leaving room for fall. But somehow I still can’t stop wearing my summer brights and tropical prints. At least not just yet! I’m not ready to let go of summer (Kanye shrug) but since Jamaica is all about palm trees and 90 degree weather, I guess I shouldn’t complain.
So while I was grabbing lunch with one of my girlfriends last week, she showed me this dress she wanted and then followed up by saying, ‘I want to buy it, but I wouldn’t have anywhere to wear it’. My answer??? JUST WEAR IT! Sure it’s great to have an event to get dressed up for but what happens when you have no special event or don’t like going to events at all?
I fully believe in creating your own reason to wear something. If you love an outfit, wear it! Don’t feel intimidated about standing out either. Whenever I feel too ‘overdressed’ occasionally I’ll try to change my look so it doesn’t look as dressy. And almost every single time I do that I end up wishing I had just gone with what I originally planned on wearing. So wear that pretty dress to work, or get dressed up to go for lunch without fear of feeling ‘overdressed’.
I recently purchased a floral dress from Jamaican designer Sandra Kennedy and instead of waiting for an event to wear it to, I pulled it out over the weekend to wear on a very casual lunch date with my two girlfriends. My girls came dressed in jeans pants, flip flops and sneakers while I came dressed in heels and a flared, floral dress. Thankfully my girlfriends love me for who I am and I love them just the same, despite our fashion differences. I’m all for making any day a reason to wear something great, and thats how this floral number made me feel when I slipped it on.
In the meantime, I urge you all to enjoy what’s left of the summer weather! Fall is fast approaching and we all know what happens after Fall! So maximize on the sunshine thats left and wear as many mini skirts, shorts, dresses as possible. Talk Soon. Nuff Love, Natasha ♥
