No Flex Zone (How to wear pajama style pants)

slang teezI think this may just be one of the most difficult trends to pull off without looking like you’re about to go to bed or you’re just getting out of it. To be totally honest with you, seeing people wear pajamas in public used to be a big pet peeve of mine, but I’ve come to realize that there are ways to make pajamas look acceptable outside of your bedroom for casual weekend activities. So YES! I took my loose fitting, printed pajama-style pants out of bed and into the busy streets of downtown Montego Bay (I planned to take photos in the town but all attempts failed terribly).

The silky texture of the pants and harem style shape made me feel much more comfortable sporting them in town. Running errands in ‘Down Town Mobay’ calls for a laid back, casual look so I opted to pair my pants with a heather-grey sweatshirt from Slang Teez. There is absolutely no easier way to look effortlessly chic than wearing a sweatshirt. Almost giving off the vibe of not trying at all but still looking pretty cool. & the graphics on the sweatshirt speak for itself…I woke up in a No Flex Zone type of mood so I wore an outfit to represent that.

IMG_4084 IMG_4079Although this trend is far from new…I still am a big fan of it (especially on my ‘I don’t give a damn’ lazy days lol). Nonetheless you shouldn’t just throw on any old PJ bottoms or sweats, unless you’re okay with people giving you weird stares all day. So I’ve put together a few tips to go by when you wanna rock pajama pants.

Tip #1. Go for pants with a tapered ankle because it slims the leg and gives off an illusion of curves on any straight figured gal. This was one of the reasons I never jumped on this trend years ago— I thought it looked sloppy for my body type however through trial and error I realized that finding one that tapers at the ankle worked.

Tip #2. If tapered ankles still aren’t enough to win you over, then choose a fabric that looks more luxurious like silk, or go for prints but make sure the patterns are subtle. This look is all about comfort and ease, with luxe fabrics draped loosely.

Tip #3. I highly recommended wearing heels with looser pants, because it will help elongate your body and allow the look to appear more flattering and streamlined. Now I must admit that I initially had on wearing my patent black pumps with this outfit but had I to change into my sneaker wedges since it was more appropriate for what I was doing that day.

There is a fine line between trying to look relaxed and laid-back and not like you just rolled out of bed without showering. So I totally get if this type of look isn’t for you…but if it is please leave a comment below or tweet me @stylishleeds. I would love to see how you recreate this look or how you have incorporated your PJ pieces into a fashionable care-free look.
