Hey. Whats up? How was your weekend? Who’s ready to tackle this week? I am. Well—even though I got home far later than intended last night, and I must admit that an extra two hours of sleep would have been nice…I’m up and sitting in office (writing this post instead of doing work lol) haha the point is that I’m awake and feeling good.
I recently watched Fifty Shades of Grey and it got me thinking about the actual color and how absolutely chic it is. So, for the rest of the week I am going to attempt to post all FIVE days of the week in an outfit inspired by the color Grey and all FIFTY of its different Shades. ♥
My first Grey inspired outfit is this full length slip dress that I absolutely adore. It’s glam and comfortable all in one. Now I know, I know…there are several women out there who would never step foot outside their home and tackle the day in a slip dress because, well— it can easily be mistaken for a slip. But to me there is a way to make the slip dress better suited for everyday wear; styling it may be a bit tricky, but it can be done.
For my slip dress I wanted everything about my look to appear effortless but polished as opposed to ‘Natasha the gal who jumped out of bed and ran out the door.’ So first tip when on the hunt for a slip dress is to always look for one that clings to all of your beautiful curves without it being overly tight like a bandage or body-con dress. The sleek silhouette of my dress by British-Jamaican designer Sandra Kennedy is what makes it so perfect. The satin silver-grey floor length dress hugs my body in all the right places and looks casual and cool while still being completely glam.
Because I wore the dress during daylight hours, I went with a low heel sandal to help ground the dress and give it just the right amount of laid back, Jamaica cool. I know many of you have a few weeks and maybe even months before you see warmer days but when Summer does roll around where you live, the slip dress is perfect because it has the cooling, breezy feeling of a maxi dress without too much volume. If it were cooler here, I would have thrown on top a cardigan to make the look even more day-time appropriate, but listen it’s hot here, really hot lol, so I need my shoulders free to embrace any breeze coming my way lol. To finish off the look I added a thrifted bucket bag I got years ago and added a layering necklace from Aldo for a final feminine touch.
It’s amazing how there are so many different characters I meet daily here in Jamaica. While up in the hills of Greenwood, Montego Bay, there lives a man (as seen above) named Bush Jack. He moved to Jamaica from Switzerland 35 years ago and has never been back. He has totally embraced and adopted our culture and a lot more. Listen I had a blast chatting with Bush Jack at his Chateau up in the ‘bush’ haha. He saw me taking pics and instantly wanted to get involved. Of course, I told him not unless I could see the full length of his locks. He actually has been in the Guinness World Book of Records for having the longest dreadlocks as a Caucasian man. Crazy right? So say hey to my new pal Bush Jack.
My hair was working well with me this day and was just feeling and looking pillow soft, that plus a classic red lip added to my look just enough sexy, just enough chill and just enough sophistication. I think the slip dress will easily be my new go-to uniform for the warmer months up a head. Let me know your thoughts, leave a comment below.
