Today I wanted to share my thoughts on two moisturizers I’ve been using in my hair from a Jamaican owned company, Ettenio. Their products are all ‘handmade featuring natural oils and butters, plant extracts, vitamins and proteins.’ So why have I taken so long to try even one of their ingredient rich products? Well— my love affair with the Shea Moisture and Giovanni hair line prevented this. I honestly had no interest in testing any other product despite the fact that several of my natural Jamaican sisters kept bragging about this Ettenio line.
I was finally out of moisturizer and decided that my next purchase would come from the Ettenio line. However, when I went to go purchase their daily moisturizer I noticed that their line actually carried two different daily moisturizers (one for thick hair and the other for fine, thin hair.) Of course I checked out the ingredient list on both bottles and they both were power packed with pretty similar ingredients. Ultimately I decided to just purchase both with hopes of having my hair decide which it preferred. It’s now been well over a month since I started using Ettenio’s daily moisturizers and I feel like I’m now at a point where I can say I’ve been sufficiently acquainted with them to give my opinion.
Creme de la Creme
Description: a bursting combination of the best moisturizing emollients that Mother Nature has to offer. It’s a thick, rich and creamy moisturizer that will help to condition, soften, moisturize and detangle your hair and make it more manageable and healthy.
The scent is very pleasant and not overpowering. It’s definitely very thick and creamy and even on my thick hair a little does go a long way. I personally did not like how it felt when applied to my hair dry as their directions stated, but on damp hair it glides on perfectly and the end result is very moisturized and soft hair.
Description: a light cream moisturizer for fine, thin relaxed or natural hair that prevents breakage. Power packed with Aloe, herbs, coconut oil, coconut milk, Mango Butter, Shea Butter, Avocado Oil and Vegetable Proteins, this blend will not only stop breakage and detangles, but moisturizes the driest hair ALL day long.
Once again I can’t argue much with their description. The moisturizer’s consistency is lightweight and I fell in love with this scent more than the Creme de la Creme. I could smell it all day. Seriously! The moisturizer also felt fantastic on my damp hair (did not like it on dry hair) and my hair was left feeling moisturized All day long.
Overall my experience with both types of Ettenio Daily Moisturizer products have been quite pleasant. Although the packaging of their products aren’t exactly my cup of tea, the quality of ingredients contained within the product itself definitely made up for this. There are several brands out there boasting certain benefits when actually the product does none of it and maybe even the opposite; this was not the case with these products.
However, I must also let you know that I saw no dramatic difference between using either product. Both felt the same when actually applied to my hair and both left my hair feeling the same (very moisturized). Although the Creme de la Creme is better suited for my thick hair I could easily use the MangoShea moisturizer and be left with the same results. I’m guessing this is because the ingredients in both moisturizers were pretty much the same and in almost the same order, the only difference was Creme de la Creme containing three additional ingredients more than the MangoShea. Maybe someone of finer-thinner hair would feel a difference between products but they felt the same in my hair.
I’m super excited about potentially trying other products in this line. Next on my list is what seems to be their most loved and reviewed product ‘Queen of Coils’. I actually got the chance for a one time use with the ‘Queen of Coils’ product in one of my wash and go’s and my hair stayed soft, curly-coily and manageable for days.
You should definitely give Ettenio products a try (HERE). Leave a comment below or tweet me @stylishleeds if you’ve tried any of their products and tell me which are your favorites and how do you use them. Talk soon loves. XO Natasha ♥
