Pucker Up: LUXE Lips with Alikay Naturals

We pay so much attention to finding the perfect skincare routine yet there is one part of the face we almost always overlook. OUR LIPS! If you want to maintain soft, plump, (& kissable) lips you ought to be paying more attention to them. In the past I would make DIY lip scrubs and I would apply honey based lip masks and scrubs once weekly to my lips—but I got lazy and slacked off. Months later I was back at square one with very chapped lips and on the verge of whipping together some concoction to get back baby soft lips.

Well God must have been listening to my prayers because Alikay Naturals sent over their lip scrub and lip balms to me just in time. I’ve been putting their lip scrub to the test for the past two months and I must say I am very pleased. Continue reading if you want to find out how to perfect your pout.

1. Exfoliate

If you want a super soft pout you first want to apply an exfoliant to your lips. This will help to remove any dry skin or flaking on your lips while revealing softer skin. I use a toothbrush to gently massage the lip scrub on my lips in circular motions. Then I take a warm, damp wash cloth to wipe off the lip scrub. If my lips still feel a bit flaky I will repeat this step a second time.

Tip: gently scrub your lips for at least 30 seconds and don’t forget to get the corners of your lips too.

BTW: if you are more of a DIY type of gal you can always make your own lip scrub with ingredients found in your kitchen. If interested in a DIY lip scrub let me know in the comments below.

2. Apply Lip Balm

At this point your lips should feel smooth and chap free. But it’s still very important to apply a smoothing lip balm as your final step. This will help to keep your lips soft, nourished and protected from the elements. Oh & as always, don’t forget to get the corners when applying the lip balm to your lips.

Since the summer months kicked in I’ve been keeping my lips silky soft with this organic lip scrub from Alikay Naturals. It tastes, smells, and looks like brown sugar creamed with oils and butters.

Now when I say a little goes a long way, take my word for it. You really only need a wee amount for your lips. The first time I used this scrub I used so much I ended up scrubbing my lips and the entire lower half of my face. The consistency is pretty course but once you begin exfoliating your lips the product breaks down very fast. The main ingredients include shea butter, mango seed butter and jojoba oil so the product doesn’t just exfoliate but it deeply conditions parched lips as well. Plus my lips are left feeling really smooth and supple for a few days after use.

& now for the best part—you can taste the yummy sweetness of this scrub while scrubbing your lips. I have a sweet tooth so I have to mentally tell myself each time not to mistake the scrub for candy and lick it off my lips.

Confession: I Natasha Lee-Duhaney, am a lip balm addict. Every single night without fail I apply a moisturizing lip balm as the last step to my skin care routine and again as my first step in the morning. My lips get dry very easily so it has become a daily essential for me to always keep my lips moisturized. So I have lip balms on my bedroom side table, in my bathroom, on my makeup vanity, in my car and in several hand bags. Hey, don’t judge…one can never have too many lip products.

So this lip balm in particular is one of those balms I only use at home typically before bed because of its consistency. It is filled with naturally moisturizing ingredients making it an ultra moisturizing and hydrating balm. So I use at nights to wake up with a smooch-worthy smacker every morning.

And there you have it! A few steps to achieving soft, kissable looking lips, along with a mini review of the lip products I’ve been turning to all summer long. The only thing left to do is find someone to smooch and put them to the test, haha. As always, talk soon. Nuff Love, Natasha ♥
