So the secret to the denim on denim trend is balance. Any silhouette can work if it’s done right, and if you know your body and whats flattering for your shape you’ve already passed step one of how to wear denim on denim. Lighter shades of denim draw attention to ones body, whereas dark wash denim creates a slimming effect. It has often been said that it is best to pair a light denim with a darker wash to create balance. But I for one am into monochromatic looks so I almost always stick with picking denim that’s all the same wash. However, when I do rock the matchy matchy denim I always ensure that I choose denim of varying weights.
To create balance in my look I opted to pair my distressed, slouchy jeans with a more feminine, lightweight, ombre chambray shirt. The result of this combination? A street style vibe that looks effortlessly put together. Because the ombre shirt transitions from dark to light I stuck with lighter washed denim on the bottom to offer a smooth transition. I also buttoned the shirt all the way up and had it tucked in front to create a cool spin on this classic look. I love adding small hints of color to a look so I also rocked my green Kate Spade handbag and my matching sandals to completely pull the look together.
So I wanna know your thoughts on all-over denim? Will you give it a go? Tweet me @stylishleeds I’d love to know.
