How I Banished My Most Recent Breakout!

Hello Gorgeous Gals & Gents!

Over the last few years I couldn’t be any more thankful for all my good hair days. But over the last month I’ve been thankful for good skin days and it is all thanks to these cute little bottles and tools. Meet my most recent skincare savior, BANISH! But first…lets back track a bit.

I have always had problematic skin. Yes you read that correctly. My skin has been one of my greatest struggles…and to be honest, it sucks big time! When I hit puberty I suffered from a mix of  acne and eczema on my face, chest and back! As a teenager I tried just about every single over the counter skin treatment, none of which worked. I eventually saw a dermatologist who prescribed Retin-A to help clear up my breakouts and thankfully this helped to wipe my skin clean to say the least. Since then I have always had a tube of Retin-A on hand, just incase my skin wanted to be naughty.

Well…when 2017 hit my skin somehow took a turn for the worst and I had a terrible breakout on both my face and back and for the first time ever the Retin-A failed me. This left me feeling very insecure and I was at a point where I was open to try just about anything.

As fate would have it, the team from Banish reached out to me and offered to send me some of their products to try. Initially I was very skeptical but after scrolling through their Instagram feed and seeing all the before and after pictures and reading several online reviews,  my hesitation slightly faded and I accepted their offer.

Now let me start by saying, these are my honest views and results on these products and I can say with confidence that Banish, is not just another skincare line. Their products freakn’ werk, werk, werk, werk, werk (Rihanna’s voice), and I really recommend them to everyone, and not just if you have problematic skin.

When the kit arrived I was pretty overwhelmed by all of the different components within the box. Thankfully, inside the box had an instructional leaflet and the Banish website also had some handy guidelines which were very helpful in showing me how to get started.

Rambling too much again? Okay let me get straight to my results…which I must say were Ahh-mazing!banish-skincare-acne-scars-natashaleeds-stylishlee

I’m almost at the 6 week mark and my skin has improved tremendously. Not only is my skin much more even and smoother now that I’ve been using the Banish products but it also has this natural glow. When I was breaking out, the texture on my skin was what bothered me the most because whether I wore makeup or not you could still tell I was having some skin issues. But now when I apply makeup, I no longer have those textural issues. My foundation applies evenly to  my skin and powders are no longer caking up around any upraised bumps. Can I get an #AMEN!

Okay! Okay! I’m not going to delay any longer. Here are the awesome products that literally brought my skin back to life! From a vitamin C serum, an activated charcoal masque, a yummy pumpkin enzyme masque, a pore smasher and the famous derma roller dubbed the ‘Banisher’. The Banish Starter Kit pretty much contains key products for any basic skincare regimen.

BANISH ACNE SCARS

I think this was one of the products I was most eager to try from the Banish Starter Kit. Activated Charcoal has become very popular over the past few years and now I know why. If you struggle with large pores, blackheads or congested skin, then you will LOVE this mask.

I always feel like a scientist when I get this mask out. Mixing formulas to create your very own face mask is so much fun! Banish recommends to mix their Activated Charcoal with their Banish Vitamin C Elixir, but I personally create my mask by mixing the charcoal with apple cider vinegar. The mixture creates a thin paste and I apply this all over my face and wait for it to dry down completely before rinsing with cool water (I opt for cool water to close the pores).

While the mask is drying down on your skin, your skin will begin to tighten just a bit and you will literally notice it drawing the oils out from your skin. After rinsing your pores will be de-gunked of all oils, toxins and impurities, leaving behind fresh, clearer skin and noticably smaller pores. I personally use this mask 1 to 2 times weekly to give my skin a good deep cleaning. I highly recommend this, especially for my gals (& gents) with oily and acne prone skin. TWO BIG THUMBS UP for this mask!

Though I didn’t think too much of this mask at first, the pumpkin enzyme mask is the stand out product from this kit. Not only is the mask vegan and organic but I found out that it’s made fresh to order every single day! So when you place your order you pretty much receive a fresh batch of this pumpkin mask. I love a mask that gives you instant results and with this mask you can expect just that. The mask is jam-packed with loads of vitamins and natural enzymes that helps to improve your skins texture, reduce the appearance of scars and uneven skin tone.

It smells and looks just like pumpkin, which may bother my gals and gents sensitive to scents but I absolutely loved how much my face smelled sort of like a pumpkin spiced latte—YUM! I typically leave this mask on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with cool water. Because of the masks exfoliating properties my skin gets slightly red after rinsing, but this redness goes away within minutes. Plus the minor tingling upon application and the redness is all worth it because my skin always looks brighter and feels baby smooth after using this mask.

Compared to the amount of product I’m used to getting from a mask, I was initially disappointed when I realized the mask only contained a rather small amount of product (50ml). Little did I know, only a small amount is needed to cover the entire face. Whether I’m breaking out or not, I use this mask once to twice a week to help brighten my skin and to help heal any scarring. I am on week 6 of using this mask and I still have enough to serve me for another 1-2 months.

Ever heard of an ice facial? Well this little baby does exactly that, minus the messy, dripping ice cubes. You place it into your freezer and on freshly cleansed skin, you just roll this bad boy up, down and around your entire face. The cold metal tip when rolled over your skin (especially your T-Zone) will help to temporality tighten pores, reduce any inflammation and soothe irritated skin.

I’ve been using the pore smasher almost every day for several different reasons. If my eyes are puffy in the mornings, the pore smasher helps to reduce the puffiness. I’ve also started giving myself pore smasher facials before applying makeup to help tighten my pores and reduce any irritation on my skin. Plus, I use the Pore Smasher to slightly numb my skin before using the dermaroller (Banisher) on my skin.

I do however wish the Pore Smasher was a little less bulky because I find it I little annoying trying to roll it around my nose and under my eyes. For that reason I sometimes use an ice cube to get the job done. Hopefully the creators of Banish will create a cuter and smaller version of the pore smasher soon. banish-acne-skin-scars-review-natashaleeds-stylishlee

Meet the Banisher!!! AKA the miracle tool from the Banish skincare line. Micro-needling or derma-rolling has been so hyped up over the past year and I’ve been dying to try it. Thankfully, the Banish Starter kit includes a derma roller and I could not wait to use it. Not sure what micro-needling is? It’s a skincare tool that creates micro-channels on the skin, to allow for better absorption of skincare products to increase their effectiveness. Using the derma-roller (Banisher & Banish Pen) also helps to improve the texture and look of the skin as the body sends off a signal to help heal the tiny holes punched into the skin by the Banisher, thus increasing collagen production so the skin can help repair itself.

I must admit, I was a little scared about rolling needles all over my face. Surprisingly, it was not as painful as I thought it would be. There’s a slight tingly feeling but nothing uncomfortable and definitely not painful. After creating tiny punctures on my face, my skin always looks very flushed and plump, but this subsides after about an hour. After diligent use over the past 6 weeks, my skin already looks smoother, firmer and brighter. Yay to NO MORE TEXTURE!

If you want a more detailed review on micro-needling leave a comment below and I’ll create a dedicated post all about it.

The Banish Oil is a Vitamin C based serum that works alongside the Banisher to help heal and fade blemishes. It’s a lightweight serum and it absorbs well into the skin. Upon application my skin looked oily so I opted to only use the serum as a part of my night time routine. But without fail, every morning when I woke up my face looked supple and radiant.

A few drops of the serum was enough to cover my entire face. Though a little goes a long way with the Banish Oil I do wish Banish had a larger version of this serum.

Time to top it all off! I love me a nice and refreshing facial mist but a facial mist with Vitamin C! Sign ME Up! I literally used the Banish Vitamin C Beauty Elixir several times throughout some days. I use it daily, before and after makeup, after a long hectic day to refresh my skin, and I use it to mix the activated charcoal mask. MULTIPURPOSE!

Ever since I started using the Banish products, I’ve received more and more comments on my skin. It’s crazy to think that just a few months ago my skin had broken out and within 6 weeks it has cleared back up. Impressed and thankful is an understatement! But more than anything else, it is my confidence that has improved. Earlier in January I was so self conscious every time I had a face to face conversation with anyone and now I feel like I can conquer anything. I agreed to try out these products because I felt like I had nothing to lose and I am so happy I gave this skincare line a chance. I’m excited to see my skin’s progress over the next few months.

If you happen to be lost on your skincare journey I urge you to get the Banish Starter Kit to add as a part of your routine. Now I’m not going to sugarcoat this, but the Starter Kit is a bit pricey (US$195) but I think it’s well worth it. I recently placed my very own order of the refill kit and I’m super eager to get these babies back into my routine. The Kit isn’t just a lotion you apply but its a regimen that you have to follow daily to rid yourself of scarring and active breakouts. Have you or anyone else you know tried Banish before? What products have you used to help clear up any skin concerns you have? Let me know in the comments below. Talk Soon. Nuff Love, Natasha ♥

It’s worth a try hun. I believe in investing in skincare and this is definitely worth the investment. PS. Currently, I’ve worked these products into my original everyday routine (so these are not the only products I am using)

I’ve been following HealthyHairToToe skin regimen for approximately a month with success for my hyper-pigmentation, etc. Especially love how soothing the aloe vera leaf is, and super inexpensive the regimen is.

    Thanks for caring to share.
