Hey StyleLeeders! It’s been a week since I snapped back to reality and for some reason I can’t stop thinking about my stay at The Cliff Hotel. Usually, when I reflect back on a vacation I make a list of all the things that made my stay worth while. Well, I made my list the very same night I returned home and it sure was a hefty list.
Rewind to just a few weeks ago, when like most people, I was busy trying to juggle work, my social life, and personal life while trying to stay sane and happy (all at the same damn time). Well, to say this trip couldn’t have come at a better time is perhaps an understatement, because I was running on ‘E’ and in desperate need of a big, fat, PAUSE button. So when Manny agreed to spend our one year anniversary in Jamaica I instantly knew I wanted to stay at a hotel that would promise, peace, serenity, slow ocean days and even slower sunsets. So, I chose The Cliff Hotel.
Let’s set the scene shall we? The Cliff Hotel is a stunning, luxury, boutique hotel recently ranked among the list of top 25 hotels in the Caribbean by the travel website, Trip Advisor. It sits on the cliff top on the most western tip of Negril. Boasting 33 lavish suites and villas, all of which have ocean views, a private balcony or patio and a stylish hammock no matter your room choice—very nice feature if you ask me.
Once we turned into the driveway and I laid my eyes on the lobby overlooking both the winding pool and Caribbean Sea, all my uncertainty whisked away. As we pulled up, I was immediately greeted by several members of the hotel, including Oshane, the sweetest bellhop I’ve ever met and Diandra, one of the hotel managers and my personal savior throughout my entire stay. Everyone knew my name and somehow I felt like I was returning somewhere I had visited many times before and they were genuinely happy to see me. And that’s a really nice feeling.
Upon entering the hotels lobby, you can see straight through to the beautiful main pool at the centre of the complex, which winds its way under bridges and has loungers in its shallows and a swim-up bar. The winding pool is set within luscious gardens and as you gaze out further the pool disappears into the ocean beyond. Immediately, I knew I made the right decision.
Throughout our stay, Manny and I spent the first few nights in a Deluxe Junior Suite with expansive ocean views, followed by our stay in one of their secluded, signature one bedroom villas (Villa One). Boasting a deep soak outdoor bathtub, direct ocean views and a bedroom & living room designed with romance in mind.
The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. Stunning actually! There is something undeniably bewitching about The Cliff hotel when you roam around it. Not only is the hotel intimately quiet but I was blown away by how much they let the surrounding environment play center stage. For anyone who’s spent time on the West End of Negril, you know how most of the resorts there are nestled along a beautiful coastline, overlooking some of the bluest of waters. But at The Cliff, the architecture and decor sets it apart from every other resort nearby. Every detail of the decor is unique and chosen thoughtfully (& needs to be in my home, ASAP), creating a clean, calm and contemporary beach feel throughout.
For adventure seekers, there is access to the sea via ladders to go snorkeling and for daredevils you can make a splash into the sea by jumping off the actual cliff! I must admit, I was a bit scared on my first day at the hotel to go cliff jumping and instead I hung out in the natural salt water pool and lolled about until Manny was back on land. By day two, thanks to Casey the lifeguard and Manny’s encouragement I overcame my fear and JUMPED! I was hooked! It’s an exhilarating experience and if you can swim I highly recommend jumping if you ever happen to stay at The Cliff Hotel.
For my foodies, The award-winning Zest Restaurant offers a pristine, ocean-facing setting, impeccable service, and ‘Ahh-mazing’ fresh cuisine. Though we only dined at the Zest Restaurant for breakfast most mornings and once for a romantic dinner, the food was simply superb, the presentation was good, and the service outstanding. Plus, whether dining in the day or night the ambiance is just amazing.
In truth, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with any resort when your morning itinerary includes, waking up to the sound of the waves crashing against the cliffside and drinking mimosa after mimosa after mimosa, that noone will judge you for. But at The Cliff Hotel!!! I truly think it is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in, and well…here are a few reasons why:
- Doing absolutely NOTHING!
- Morning swims in the Caribbean Sea
- Hammock Time
- Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner with a view
- The Interior Decor
- Breakfast out on our room patio, waves crashing against the cliffs
- Living in a bikini for 5 days
- Cliff Jumping and Diving
- Dinner conversations that went on for hoursss into the night
- Late night infinity pool sessions
- A natural salt water pool tucked into the cliffs
- In-room Champagne
- Quiet naps in the shade
- Turn down service. EVERYNIGHT!
- Sunset cocktails
- Getting lost in a book or two (Okay, maybe 4) on the lounge chairs by the cliffs
- Yummy dining
- Sipping one too many fruity cocktails on the cliffs, our only concern being to make sure we applied sunscreen every hour, on the hour
- Canopy beds that catch the breeze just right when you’re settling in for the evening.
- The Zest Bar, The Pool Bar and The Cliff Bar & Trevor the Bartender. Need I say more?
- Cotton Candy SUNSETS!
Now, before you browse bits and pieces of my stay, I have to thank the amazingly, gracious team at The Cliff Hotel. I’ve never met a more kind, gracious and all around lovely hotel staff and I sensed it the minute I arrived. I seriously feel like my soul has been revived and it is indebted to you all. Thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven with me and Manny. Trust me, we will definitely be back. Very Soon! Truth be told, I’m tempted to head back again for a getaway weekend with my girls in one of their larger signature villas. Anyone wanna join? 🙂
